Candidate Statement as compiled by the City of Menlo Park City Clerk Judi Herren
Occupation: Complete Streets Commissioner, Retired Genentech Clinical Research
Education and Qualifications:
Eight years of City Council decisions have pushed us in the wrong direction. Office construction and traffic increase relentlessly. Small businesses are pushed out. Residents’ concerns take a back seat. Starstruck by Stanford and Facebook, city leadership fails to make tough decisions. We need community benefits from development. We need housing so businesses retain workers and reduce commuter traffic. Infrastructure must catch up with development. I will focus on the common interests of residents so that growth benefits the community and improves quality of life.
I was born in Menlo Park, graduated from Stanford and had a successful career in biotech. Thirty years ago I put down roots
in District 4, educating our three children in the wonderful local public schools. Through service on city commissions I learned the importance of infrastructure, safe streets, railroad crossings, the downtown vibe, housing, school impacts and neighborhoods. Menlo Park City Council needs fresh faces with local voices to represent residents’ interests in our quality of life, economic opportunity and responsible development. I will be your representative, not aligned with any political faction, with time and desire to listen to your ideas. Critical thinking and persistence make change happen. We must do better for our community. Join me.
